Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid surgery uplifts and transforms the appearance of eyelids for a more youthful and defined result. Dr. Chris Allen, a Perth plastic surgery professional, specialises in creating a natural yet effective appearance. Ideal candidates include:

  • Patients who feel that their eyelids appear sad, tired or old
  • Patients with excess skin and hooding of the upper lids
  • Patients who cannot apply makeup to the upper eyelids
  • Patients with excess skin, wrinkles, bags or puffiness of the lower eyelids
  • Patients who experience difficulty when looking upward

The procedure takes between one to two hours and is completed under local or general anaesthesia. For upper eyelid surgery, an incision is made in the natural crease. Excess skin and fat are then removed. For lower eyelid surgery, an incision is made below the eyelashes and in the creases of the outer corner of the eye. Excess skin and fat are trimmed to achieve the desired result. Muscles are tightened or lifted and incisions are closed with very fine sutures that are generally dissolvable.

Eyelid surgery can also be combined with face lift surgery, resulting in the comprehensive lifting and tightening of the entire face.

Following your eyelid surgery, you’re able to return home on the same or next day and may shower the day after. Most patients experience minimal pain that resolves by the second or third day. Swelling is mild to moderate, disappearing after the first week altogether. Minimal bruising appears, reaching its peak at two days then disappearing by seven to ten days.

You’re able to wear makeup and comfortably appear in the public after five to six days. Many activities can be resumed within the first week and most activities by the third. Some sutures may need to be removed four days after your surgery, however the rest are dissolvable. We recommend taking between three to six days off work.

Eyelid surgery gives you a natural, rested and younger appearance with minimised heaviness on the eyelids. Results improve over three to six months and last long into the future.
