PLASTIC SURGERY
Plastic surgery deals with the reconstruction of damaged features, skin and limbs or other parts of the body. The term plastic is from the greek word plasticos which means to shape or mould.
Qualified plastic surgeons must be trained in all areas of plastic and reconstructive surgery, including trauma (accidents and burns) congenital disorders (birth defects) reconstruction for cancer (skin cancer, breast cancer, head and neck cancer), as well as cosmetic surgery.
It takes 8 to 10 years to be trained in all areas of plastic and reconstructive surgery, including cosmetic surgery. Plastic surgeons may specialise in one area or perform all types of plastic and cosmetic surgery.
